Samara Lipsky has done much of her research on the biopsychosocial model. To understand this model, it helps to know its history. Back in the late 1970s, the medical community had developed a working medical model that had been in place for far too long. Psychiatrist Dr. George Engel proposed that if a hypothetical patient went through a series of unfortunate health events, finding a solution for this would not fit into the model that was being practiced by the science community.
